thought moxie has a few interesting points in this article https://moxie.org/2022/01/07/web3-first-impressions.html

my short counter-points to their critique of decentralization

  • yes decentralized protocols are harder to build and take more time. if you are surrounded by vcs this might seem like purely a negative,
but I would like to move towards a world that moves slower. there is a need for slow thoughtful projects. I want to think about seven generations from now. I can imagine a world where a new iphone was released only once every hundred years. the pace of current markets is not desirable or sustainable
  • with enough time, absolute power corrupts. similar to above, decentralized moves slower but plants more resilient roots
  • its cool that email still works

but I still like the article, and also would rather have signal than not have signal. maybe short and long-term projects both have a role

I just saw and read your blog post after I posted, and saw that @kawaiipunk posted this article too haha

I like your article too. also appreciate your point about Pareto principle and running your own server, hadn't thought of it in those terms before... "no one wants to run their own server" and "most people dont want to run their own server" is potentially a pretty crucial distinction...
