Looks beautiful @glyph. I love my ergodox moonlander which has a similar ortholinear split design with special thumb buttons. How do you access numbers and some symbols, do you end up with virtual "layers" you can access by hitting some keys?
I had a look around and a search like "corne keyboard prebuilt" turned up some results. This was the past I found so far:
Is this the docs how to build + flash? https://github.com/foostan/crkbd
These docs suggest the common flashing tool is Windows/ Mac only. How did you get around this?
Here's a little article showing how layers can work for a keyboard like this: https://pastebuffer.com/the-corne-keyboard/
A subreddit with a lot of fans: https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/search/?q=corne
Mix Android your vim fears are well founded. I switched to Workman for about a year and a half. Never could get back to full productivity in vim. I switched back to QWERTY a few months ago and it feels so good to have full vim power back.
Actually cli vim on my main machine wasn’t really the problem. It was all the vim-like keybinds I use in other apps, many of which didn’t support rebinding all the keys. Browser plugins, DDG, various IDEs, vim on other machines (servers), etc.
oh lord, it's keyboard porn... there's a massive youtube and blog community creating keyboard porn. It's such a fascinating little niche. It's so much attention to making an everyday tool beautiful and optimally functional it's like a meditation or a prayer
funny but also very useful
oh wow this article is so detailed https://switchandclick.com/cherry-mx-guide/ . It just kept going
Nice build @glyph, hope it works for you! Personally I already struggle with a 4 row layout because I wanted all kinds of #i3wm specific shortcuts en bloc in one of the layers.
One thing I have on my "let's split" (really the luxury version from mountain keyboards by now but same layout) is the Ctrl/Esc double on the bottom left corner. Tap = Esc, Hold = LCtrl. It works like a charm. I really miss that when typing on other keyboards.
I also mapped the arrow keys onto HJKL positions; Or rather to HNEI for us colmak folks :P
Just ordered some Gazzew U4 Boba Silent Tactile Switches
Now to wring my hands over the perfect keycaps. Pointers on where to buy nice keycaps welcome
the options are so overwhelming... I hope this is done
bought some coloured keycaps
