Wow this is literally the second time in as many hours that I hear about this book now. I checked it out and I'm sure this would hook me as well.
I think the reason I (and maybe you too?) "like" to hear bad news is because I've been thinking along similar lines, increasingly, but so far things seem... "okay". As in, in my everyday life, the terrible things happening don't even have all that much impact on me. Covid was a bit of an outlier there, but if I didn't read the news I wouldn't have know about Ukraine for example. So on the one hand I feel fine but on the other hand I think about the future and see this dark, dark storm front coming up. And it feels good to hear that I'm not alone.
But of course, that doesn't mean that I'm right or that Mr Zeihan is right. Confirmation bias gives a warm fuzzy feeling regardless of whether the thing being confirmed is correct. That's why I'll stick with my myco books for now. I think Mycelium Running is political enough for me this summer, thank you very much. :P
