unfortunately, it's become very very dangerous to say anything: it's bound to be distorted. even this semi-joint statement pair, intended to communicate continuity in the cooperation and mutual support, is being interpreted in very different ways.
RMS resigned as president and director of the FSF, but he still has plenty of moral authority.
that said, the FSF was founded to support GNU, and though its mission has expanded to broader Free Software activism under his leadership, there's no reason to expect the FSF to change course under its current leadership.
plus, though GNU has little leverage over the FSF, and the FSF is in charge of a lot of responsibility over GNU, much of FSF's funding comes from RMS and GNU supporters, so moving away from them would be suicidal. it would take a very hostile attack, intended to disrupt and destroy rather than to take over, to change that.
so let's keep on working together and making sure it doesn't happen.
