I've also been thinking about this. @keks expresses my thoughts on it well. If likes have branch and root, should they become part of the thread? Would additional replies branch to both posts or likes?

If likes had root, this would also mean a whole thread (including all context) could be loaded in a single roundtrip. I think this would have some positive performance implications!
