As well as the bare tutorial you reference there are now several options for docker containers and automatic installers at various levels of support. Take a look at the #pub-help channel for past conversations around installing and running a pub server, and get creative. Running a pub is an advanced topic and many of us have opinions how to do it well.

Responding to your second question: Yes, it is now npm install -g ssb-server.
