this permanence makes ssb less suitable as a replacement for mainstream centralized social networks

it's not like stuff isn't permanent in the latter, though. even if you can have the illusion of deleting posts, they don't ever really go away for good. SSB is just more honest about it.

which is good, IMHO, inasmuchas it makes people think a little more before posting.
