i don't have definitions for these terms specifically, but i've been experimenting with a wiki design based on @devine's work. there's a wiki file attached to this message (may not be visible depending on your client though). planning on adding wiki support based on this concept to patchfoo in the near future for testing.

here's a backlink to my original dev diary for this project (should start posting there again tbh)

@umhi

Just a super brief intro to some of the above:

  • solarpunk: I'm gonna really botch this but I think of solarpunk as a subculture link cyberpunk except more focused on DIY projects with friends and gardening and making friends and integrating deeply with nature instead of the usual cyberpunk "jack into the matrix" where you don't really pay attention to healthy natural ecosystems.
  • faerie rings: Regular group calls with a handful of friends where you check in on each other and talk about life and such in a really intentional way. Sometimes happens IRL, imagine like 8 people sitting in a circle. :)
  • p2p: peer-to-peer, usually in the context of computer networking, where you try to emphasize direct connections between people instead of depending on intermediaries like Google or Facebook or Twitter. Also used in an economic context, but that's a bit squishier to me than the computer context (probably because I'm not an economist).
  • Git: software for keeping track of changes in documents and code in a collaborative fashion without having to use products like Google Docs.l
  • decentralized: the process of reducing concentrations of power and removing intermediaries that separate us from the people and things we want to connect with
  • Dat: a technology like SSB that (as I understand) has received lots more funding and is generally considered easier to develop software with than SSB. They have a social network, https://unwalled.garden/, that I've not heard much about, but is being worked on by Paul Frazee who used to do SSB stuff.

It would be cool to have some sort of #ssb-wiki where we could define all this jargon and maybe build some #collective-intelligence around the way we communicate on the network. #somebody-should

Everything @christianbundy said about solarpunk is good, but I also want to add that it's a vision of the future - like cyberpunk it's a genre of scifi. And like cyberpunk you can be solarpunk except when you be cyberpunk you wear a leather jacket, wrap around shades and a Casio F91-W, when you be solarpunk you do all the things christian mentioned.
