Life update

I've been meaning to engage more with people on SSB for a while, but life has been hectic and most times I'm just way too tired or busy to find the time.

My wife and I moved to Michigan (USA) late last year for her job. We mostly stayed inside during the winter months (because Michigan) and just as it was starting to get nicer outside the pandemic kicked into full gear.

After living here for a little over 9 months we've decided that the job is not sufficient reason to stay here, so we're packing up and moving to India. Most of our paperwork is sorted out and we expect to land there in early September.

I plan to take a short break to recharge after travelling then resume my efforts on cryptpad once I figure out how taxes work in my situation.

Flying between Michigan and India is tiring even in simpler circumstances, but we're both looking forward to spending time with family following the quarantine period after our travels, in particular during Diwali.

side note: I'm thinking of getting a nintendo switch because it seems like an easy way to relax. If anyone has any game suggestions let me know!

@bobhaugen: We've been living in Ann Arbor, very close to the football stadium. It was a welcome change from Paris because we finally had the room to start a garden which was a huge stress reliever. We're a bit sad to leave it behind but thankfully we've talked to some other local gardeners interested in adopting them. I'll post some pics shortly.

As for winter... as a Canadian I'm used to it, but my wife is Indian and isn't a big fan. The winter climate where we're headed will be closer to late spring or early summer as I think of it. I'm looking forward to growing plants year-round and experimenting with tropical plants that probably wouldn't grow well outside the tropics.

seeds from store-bought tomatoes grew into this... we don't have a trellis so we've used thread to tie several plants together for mutual support

habanero peppers which we really hope will be ready to eat before we move

tiny-tims.jpeg

"Tiny tim" dwarf tomato plants. They hit about 18"/45cm when full grown and produce some really tasty, small round fruit

sliced-tim.jpeg

Some tiny tims which we harvested along with what I believe is a fairly immature poblano pepper

More tomatoes, beans, and greens

straboob.jpeg

We bought a kit for strawberries, and it's been producing them in small doses throughout the summer

waffle.jpeg

The strawberries pair well with our waffle maker

jalapenos.jpeg

We have a steady supply of jalapenos

serranos.jpeg

...as well as some slightly hotter serranos

green-onions.jpeg

Our onions haven't grown especially well, but they're quite flavourful and we haven't needed to buy green onions from the grocery store

greens.jpeg

These trays have been good for a steady supply of greens. Bugs ate our kale and arugula, but we've been left with a few types of lettuce, spinach, and (our favourite) swiss chard

okra.jpeg

We probably won't get to eat the bhindi (okra) which we planted, but its flowers are pretty
