Local Native @ Rust NYC 2019 September Meetup
I've given a talk at Rust NYC for its 2019 September Meetup.
Above is the screen capture video remake when going over the slides again with my HXNYC 2019 class.

Ouch, caution, eardrum ripping noise at 1:59. Had to stop there for fear of repeats (I have permanent tinnitus, so have to be extra careful not to worsen my condition) :(
@yi really interested in the talk though. is there any chance you could extract the audio, normalise it with audacity, and re-upload the fixed audio?
@ktorn I got the audio track as a mp3 file and tried to do the Effect > Normalize in Audacity. But it still have those spikes.
I am not an audio expert, it seems to remove those spikes some kind of Limiter effect and/or probably need to manually edit the envelop of those spikes. Those items are beyond my bandwidth at this point.
The slides is https://rust-nyc-2019.localnative.app
I basically went over the links in the slide in the video, I hope the slides are useful if the audio does not work for you.
@yi thanks for taking the time to try fixing it, and sorry for me suggesting the normalise filter.
No way should one have to spend the time to do manual spike removal. It's a mindless repetitive task and that's what computers are for. I googled a bit more and found a plugin that actually does the job for the whole file at once: Pop Mute (search it here).
I downloaded it, installed it, enabled it, and applied it your audio, and it worked great.
So here's what I did:
Threshold: -8 dB
Mute Level: -80 dB
Look ahead: 5 ms
Release time: 200 ms
The white noise from some of the spikes is still audible but so low in amplitude that it's OK.
Let me know if you want a copy of the result, but you can get the same by following the above instructions.
Also thanks for the slides.
