The #37c3 talks are pretty amazing! And since I'm not physically there I even find the time and energy to watch a bunch of them. 😆
Today I watched and liked a lot:
Operation Triangulation
What You Get When Attack iPhones of Researchers
An insane chain of exploits for iOS (most of it way over my head) that the targeted researchers at Kaspersky managed to live-record.
Toniebox Reverse Engineering
Eine Musikbox für Kinder, Maker und Hacker
My nephews use these boxes for a few years already. Their "cloud only" mode of operation has always itched me. I'm now waiting for the nephews to grow out of them so I can get my hands on the hardware. The community around these boxes has "attacked" the system from basically all the angles. Ranging from modifying data in the running system, to patching the venbor firmware, replacing it, all the way to connecting it to a self-hosted backend.
Handsfree assistive technology
My technology portfolio to enable work, life, smart home and travel using a power wheelchair
The presenter gives a guided tour of how he uses assistive technology in his everyday life. Many #accessibility features exist in the shadows and it's not always clear why/for who they're needed... until you need them. Others are things that might never have been invented if it weren't for accessibility reasons, but that now benefit everyone.
All cops are broadcasting
TETRA unlocked after decades in the shadows
I just "love" that the entirety of Europe is building their police, military, and critical infrastructure communications on a system using proprietary crypto from the 90s. Which, surprise surprise, often turns out to be as good as no crypto at all.
Bonus: running a key recovery on 1998 hardware to make a point.
I'll head to bed, but tomorrow there will be more things to watch!
I'm particularly looking forward to this item specific to #france:
A year of surveillance in France: a short satirical tale by La Quadrature du Net
From the so-called Country of human rights to a surveillance State
That's happening tomorrow (Thursday) at 12:00
