Re: %oQK5s8LRR

@Angelica : "Also, cc @Alanna, did y'all chose this language for yourselves or is it already part of the cryptocurrency norm? (Is this even cryptocurrency??)"

I'm going to try and answer this below!

@Alanna : "I've start regrowing the 4of5 wallet"

I have not seen the notion of 'growing' a wallet outside of mmt. 4of5 is referring to the number of signatories needed to make a payment. This is a common corporate permissions and control mechanism which is also pretty common within bank accounts for organisations (and sometimes couples?).

alanna: "from the seed generated from Dan's shards that we recombined"

Seed here is a pretty common mechanism used in the cryptocurrency world. I think it is also common outside the world of cryptocurrencies. I am glad someone in the world thought to think about it this way as it opens a world of possibilities imaginatively!

alanna: "It's given me a master public key"

A master public key is from the cryptocurrency world. (it has it's origins in public-private key cryptography which has been around since the late 80s/early 90s - PGP is an example of this... and in some schemas it is possible to have a master signing key and then children keys).

alanna: "and is asking for co-signer keys now."

co-signer keys is a crypto thing

alanna: "Do we want to go all the way through with recreating the wallet, meaning you'll each need to set it up and generate your co-signer keys?"

All of the above words are from crypto/currency linguo.

alanna: "And is a master public key a secret (ie. we'd need to do that via private messages)?"

this notion of secrets is actually deeply embedded in the structures of computing... think passwords, SSL, encryption... it's a profound topic.

alanna: " I thought we we re-growing the original wallet, but are we actually creating a new one that will inherit the contents of the old one?"

A mix of new and old...

alanna: "OK after talking with @mix I am now clear on what I need to do next: re-enter the co-signer keys we used last time (including mine, Alanna's, since now I'm playing zombie Dan). So the result will be the same 4of5 wallet, and we'll have the 4 co-signers we need: Alanna, Peg, Mix, and Alanna operating zombie Dan like a meat puppet."

Dan the zombie being orchestrated like a meat puppet is all alanna's work

I personally think of this more like I am a :sailboat: :skull: who has passed on, but I have left treasure maps with my fellow buckaneers. I live on in those maps, but am not turned into a zombie meat puppet :D

alanna: "One thing I realised is while I had the experience of regrowing my individual wallet from a seed (in the setup guide), I kind of skipped the experience of regrowing my own multi-sig wallet from a seed before attempting to regrow someone else's multi-sig from shards. I think if I had done that intermediary step I would have been able to correctly guess the next step in recreating Dan's wallet easier. "

alannas reasoning of re-growing is intuitive and has not been 'created' by mmt, but seems to be an intuitive progression of the fact that the recovery mechanism developed are based around the notion of seeds

meta comment

One of the primary gambits of mmt is that it is possible to wrap a social collectively oriented wrapper around bitcoin

bitcoin (like so many technologies before it) come from the ethics of individualism (libertarianism). trust no one but yourself. as such much of the social language we are conceiving is not intuitively derived from concepts of cooperation (or lack thereof) from within the cryptocurrency world.

we need new stories, concepts and imaginaries. that's what we're working on
