Just to link back some progress.

M#0: The biggest blocker I see here is getting the platform-dependent systrayhelper binary installed through an npm postinstall script.
With a good multi-platform example/template at hand, I'm fairly certain that I can port/adapt it to our needs.

This is now done. We have a new module forked-systray (gh, git-ssb) with a cleaner install story then the original version. I also patched scuttle-shell to support tale:net, patchbay and git-ssb against an sbot spawned by patchtron, demoed here.
