Apr 12Hey everyone, I've just invented a new sort of building. It's a simple shelter to keep bicyles out of the rain, not sure what to call it though, any ideas?
I'm thinking about "mux" and "demux", like:
A demultiplexer (or demux) is a device that takes a single input line and routes it to one of several digital output lines. A demultiplexer of 2n outputs has n select lines, which are used to select which output line to send the input. A demultiplexer is also called a data distributor.
Also "cipher" is cool. So ciphermux? Mostly I like Mux because it is the Kiwi pronunciation of Mix.
throwing in 'confidant'?
I kinda want something thats gives off a tentacle vibe...
I've been reading too much octavia butler
@alanna it would be interesting to collect a list of movies where combining parts of a magical amulet (etc) is a key part of the plot.
How about just Dark Crystal ?
Every good name suggestion has some problem with it. so "remux", multiplexing typically refurs to streams, as in continious changing things, so appling it to a static thing is weird.
How about just Dark Crystal ?
+1
riffing on the Dark Crystal ... it made me think of the process of refraction... so this
then this
from here.
not sure it is imagery which can be reclaimed at this point, but food for thought.
There's alot of fun imagery and wordplay to be found within Crystals
Is it possible to take a rainbow refracted through a crystal and de-fract it back together? And what would this process be called? I tried googling but it kept thinking I meant "diffraction".
Speaking of which, what if you filtered some of the wavelengths out. Is there any other examples where you can get back to a "whole" or "original" without having all the orignial pieces (or wavelengths in this riff).
Something about this makes me think of stem cells, or replication from that sense... you can lose some members of a species but the DNA is still within other members of the tribe....
Hmmmm. More thinking.
I love it too! The only qualm I have is accuracy. Would we arrive back at white if some of the light wavelengths were filtered out?
We're able to get back to white using 3 of 5...
Orrrrrr.... Does accuracy not matter when then imagery or the narrative gets you most of the way there in terms of further understanding and 80% of the way there...
:shruggy: <--- How the F@*&% is this not thing!?!?!?!
From that list Dark Crystal is the one which pops for me.
Recombiner is the one which is the most literal in some ways...
re/combiner
it's both a combiner and a recombiner
I speak of a different kind of Blackness, the kind That the world does not know, the kind that the world Will never understand It is rhythm against rhythm in kind dispersion It is harmony against harmony in endless coordination It is melody against melody in vital enlightenment

Just because a light is in the darkness does not make the darkness light. White and the light depends upon power to show its light, Black does not depend upon power to be black, the darkness is a natural phenomena.

Here's a color palate for you!
Here's some colours from tropical fish at the fish market here (you have to zoom in to get some of the wild patterns)
@bobhaugen "Ok, so what are the two babes-in-arms saying to each other?"
"What do you think of this bikeshed?"
or
"Can I back up a shard of my favorite story book with you?"
Lets ask Rincewind...
More colours!

A bit late to this thread, but I'll throw in something with a double meaning: assemble
You first need to assemble people, in order to assemble the pieces back together.
