@nate What's your stack? Where are you hung up in the process?
@nate, in SSBC previously we've talked about making a paid pub-hosting service. Is that something you would be interested in? Or is this a server you already have running that you want to have a pub set up on?
What kind of features are you looking to have developed in the client?
Aside from a manual installation, I think the easiest way would be to spin up a docker droplet on DigitalOcean and just pull an ssb pub docker image.
a little more complicated than wordpress
Yes, but Wordpress is an aging blog platform and this is a new distributed social network, so that is to be expected.
Similar to ktorn, I'd recommend getting a VPS from Digital Ocean. Personally I always reimage them with Arch Linux, because it's the best Linux distro and always has an up to date version of Node. Having the latest version of Node is key for Scuttlebot because it is built on Node.
Then do a global install of Scuttlebot
% sudo npm install -g scuttlebot
Once you've done that, and it says that it has completed successfully, the next step is to run the server
% sbot server
You should probably do this in Tmux on your server because you need it to keep running while you are away. Detach from the tmux session and sbot will keep running in the background.
Next, you'll need to
sbot invite.accept <invitecode>
To connect your pub to another pub. Give us a shout and someone can create you an invite code.
context - @nate might be wanting to run a pub on a boat, or island (i.e. he's interested because it's specifically not cloud).
I wonder if we couldn't shouldn't have a go at a Raspberry Pi 3 image which we can then just post as SD cards... or deliver via pigeon
Is it possible to run sbot as an island?
sure. But that's not what I meant. I meant ON an island :P
@mixmix Oh, an island! That makes more sense.
I wonder if we couldn't shouldn't have a go at a Raspberry Pi 3 image which we can then just post as SD cards... or deliver via pigeon
@mixmix that's a great idea! I'm short of time right now, but if no one else wants to take this on, I might give it a go sometime next week.
I'll be back in Auckland later this week!
well thank you, I had no idea. How much $$ givanation does this entitle me to?
Hey @nate, I feel like you're talking quite quickly, and I don't know what you're actually planning.
What's the IP, who's in your group, what are their values, why are you taking the approach that you're taking?
Before I can understand those things, offering a directorship and equity feels a bit like jumping the gun.
I might have missed that detail in an earlier post/ link, so feel free to link me back to read more.
If you don't have a website, just write up the details over at hackmd.io , google docs, whatever.
Everyone is a director of the parent with shares dilluted following the fibonacci sequence
Interesting. I'm just working out some stock dilution details for a similar incubator-style company in Macau. How exactly do you plan to use the fibonacci sequence when a new director joins?
Also, my idea is to operate the new division as a non-registered subsidiary of the parent company, and allocate share (options?) within that division, so that the "founders" of the division will get fairly rewarded if/when the division pays dividends or is sold (or IPOs).
