Symbols represent identifiers, they consist of alphanumeric characters, or

Could this be a typo for "non-alphanumeric"? I'm also curious whether this is specifically non-alphanumeric non-whitespace printable ASCII or all non-alphanumeric characters. Hope OI'm reading this right, thanks for sharing!
