BLOB PARTY

Over the next 2 weeks we're gonna swarm on how scuttlebutt deals with blobs (file attachments).

This is motivated by wanting to enable %ferment to move forward, but will also serve the network more generally.

Expect

• thread(s) about blobs + blob strategy
• an influx of experimental blobs
• an SSBC call in 2 weeks (at the standard time) dedicated to reviewing and resolving decistions

One of the first things I'll be trying is blobifying all of the existing music in ferment. Please expect about 1 GB of blobs to splatter against your pubs!

This is actually less than the current size because I'll be using a slightly lower bitrate (reencoding all the files) and no longer creating the mp3 fallback.

Might have to put the blob party on hold! I haven't actually done any blobs yet. Hopefully next week! I'll let ya'll know.

Not sure I can make it. I don't have much to report. Other than after this week I'm free from teaching and will have more time to jam.

I think if someone wants to do a call they should name the time clearly - note that international delays mean calling a meeting withing 24 hours of it might make it less likely to be attended
