This thread is intended to help collect records of #funding the #scuttlebutt ecosystem has received.

Enspiral grant

Amount : $500 NZD

Enspiral is a collection of social entrepeneurs who happen to pool money and then collectively fund projects. I raised a 'bucket' proposal to fund scuttlebutt/ Patchwork (classic), asking for $500 which myself and others (e.g. @mikey ) put forward.

This was perhaps our first go at managing money together. I poured this money into a debit card and gave access to all the people in SSBC at the time.

To date we've used it to fund :

• ongoing server costs for @cel's servers (which I think host scuttlebutt websites, public ssb-viewer and git-ssb endpoints, and the mumble server we use for public calls)
• domain name registrations
• hashbase.io subscription to enable @andrestaltz
  to host Android installers with his awesome dat-installer
• @marina's excellent writing : %As+/+SO... (this was a koha as acknowledgement for the work she'd voluntarily taken on)

At this writing there are still $111 left

Dfinity grant

Amount : $200K USD

The following is Dominic speaking:

A group called Dfinity approached me (@dominic) offering a grant to support with the development of Scuttlebutt. They have proposed $200k USD, and are giving total freedom about how we manage it (their only requirement is that they need invoices for work / expenses).

What I want:

• growth of the ecosystem
• happy healthy community
• learning
• simplicity (in the process)
• excitment + celebration
• movement towards other sources of income for ssb dev

What I don't want:

• people burning out
• too much paperwork
• 100% perfect completion

The most valuable thing we have is the community. Half the reason for grants is to give everyone
a fair opportunity to get paid to work on scuttlebutt.

Mobile SSB Quests

Amount: 50.05 ETH

A certain amount of ETH was given to Dominic specifically to help development of SSB on mobile, beyond simply MMMMM development. So we decided to propose a specific few quests targeted at improving code related to mobile, sometimes within the context of MMMMM but not coupled to it. People can "claim" a quest by applying for it, and then, once accepted, work towards that.
