the village kit 🏡☀️
hi folx, here is a placeholder for my next focus (and associated social enterprise): villagekit.com 😻
the underlying concepts are nothing new, see here or here. 🌱
in short, i want to bring #opensource to the #tinyhome movement, culminating in a comprehensive blueprint for how to start and run a solarpunk trailer park. ✨
said another way, i want to experiment with using specific top-down constraints to better support bottom-up micro-utopias. ❗
as a rough outline:
- support the general movement with specific prototypes
- support well-engineered, modular, interoperable, and re-usable construction systems
- as a trade-off with bespoke upcycling that is not modular, interoperable, or re-usable
- for example: Grid Beam, structural pipe fittings, T-Slot
- use code-based CAD where possible
- enable open sharing of fractal (macro and micro) designs
- such as a package manager (e.g.
npm
) for physcial modules
- such as a package manager (e.g.
- accumulating re-usable construction materials should be a viable economic savings strategy
- less unconstrained macro-utopias (as they continue to fail), more constrained pragmatic business plans and clear boundaries to support micro-utopias
- for example: an #ecovillage requires too much upfront privilege, the whole system is dependent on self-actualizing visions, and there are unmitigated risk when conflicts inevitably arise
- another example: the Burning Man org (and regional burn orgs) is actually authoritarian, but the authority is very limited in scope (e.g. where you are allowed to camp), which enables each camp to be their own anarchist micro-utopia
similar to Open Source Ecology, but with hopefully less ego. [1] [2]
am in the early stages, currently looking for business partners with skills in manufacturing, architecture, construction, or entrepreneurship.
am waiting another ~6 months before i commit full-time, out of respect for my current employer. ❤️
