Pinging rad humans who could totally shake up that conference: @dominic, @mix, @mnin, @Luandro, @noffle, this list is obviously very incomplete but I don't care. You can go on and ping more people of transitive subjective radness =)
Also @paul and mafintosh (whose radness I can only conjecture, but with high confidence)
@cft, please try to find out whether/how the travelling costs would be covered.
This seems like a great opportunity to infuse ethics and diversity into the academic ivory tower.
@cft this sounds rad. What connections do you have around funding to get people - tickets to fly there + tickets to attend the event? (the answer may be none).
Given the late notice, I think if they want some more diverse perspectives (which it sounds like they do, and we would love to offer), I think if there's anyone who can support some of us attending that would be awesome.
e.g. speaking for myself I can't cover flights + ticket + time off. I could draw $500 from the open collective, but would still be a lot short.
I think it would be awesome to send @mnin if we can, through some collaboration. I think I'd like to see two non-academic butts there so that they can collaborate + support one another
Further: if we're sending 2 people, the discussion is going to be more than a panel thing right? I personally don't think panels are that amazing. I think it would be great if there was also some hanging out + dinners shared across communities. Is that a thing?
@aljoscha I can speak Cantonese/Mandarin too, perhaps really rustily about decentralised stuff lol… and a bit intimidated about that ivory tower.
The ivory tower was a weak attempt at humor, nothing more. At the end of the day there are going to be a bunch of humans interested in taking in new perspectives - or at least that would be my hope =)
@cft hold on, a #crabmeet in my town next month? Are you kidding? Wow! :)
My PhD revolves around decentralised information systems so if you need more butts on the panel you can count with me too!
Also, this is a proper academic computer science conference, so for best results we probably want people who can hold their own in that situation.
